Title: National 12 : Broken Rudder
Post by: Mr Milburn (Guest) on 24 Jun 2007, 08:14
A member of the Bradford on Avon sailing club has a broken rudder on their National 12.

The broken part is the second clamp down which attaches the rudder onto the boat. It is an Aluminium part and has snapped right off from the main rudder chassis (where the Tiller also attaches)

WHERE CAN WE BUY A REPLACEMENT PART?

(baring in mind we do not need a full replacement rudder, just a small part approx 6 inches long with 4 screw holes to attach to rudder chassis)

Best on-line chandlery is Pinnell & Bax - you'll get the web address via Google.

Which boat(s) are at the Club?  Would they be interested in other local SW area events and sailing with other 12s??

If the part is aluminium, it is likely to be an old Holt Allen part. I would recommend replacing with a stainless steel part, but you will then have to replace the bottom fitting on the transom so it fits. The key measurement is the width of the rudder stock.
