Quoted below from Y&Y article on alchohol limits - is this another "HIP mess up" in making??? See the text 'more than 7 metres and / or capable of more than 7 knots'. Guess that means many dinghies - so will this mean that for the likes of BW and sea events we all get breathalised before going out????

In response to the Department for Transports announcement today that they will be pressing ahead with the introduction of an alcohol limit for non-professional mariners, the RYA is puzzled that they are acting now, three years after completing its consultation.
The proposed regulations will be applied to the navigation of vessels which are more than 7 metres (about 23ft) in length and/or capable of a maximum speed of over 7 knots. The limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood will be equivalent to that already in existence for professional mariners.
Hmm...Terry Cooke might not be v impressed. Fortunately the 12 falls outside of this jurisdiction. Mr Cooke has on a couple of occasions been seen falling out of his boat at Burnham Overy Staithe having partaken of a few too many orange juices! Fortunately his crew remained sober and took control.

whilst on this occasion Terry was sailing a boat less than 7m and at less than 7 knots, I think you will find that from time to time he has been noted doing more than 7 knots. Thus the rule as quoted would apply. Sounds like you can only sniddle when drunk. Norfolk Week may therefore still be OK.
FYI I always have a crate of beer when I'm sailing solo in Passion Pudding. I don't, get to drink much of it though, since when I lean back to grab a bottle the boat inevitably gets dangerously close to broaching!!!
The crate also keeps the weight up to a reasonable level for light breezes!
