The life of N1717 Sea Sled. Design: Mark 8, designed by: Ian Proctor in 1958
Burton Cup winning boat, Torquay 1960, Mike Nokes and Jo Nokes
Bought this boat from a member of Whitstable Yacht Club around 1964, spent a lot on it replacing all the rigging with stainless steel (a new idea in those days) plus the ultimate luxury accessory in those days "ratchet blocks"...loads of mick taking by the old "sea dogs" about us young wimps not being able to hold a sheet.
Purchased complete new Terylene sail set and stripped and revarnished with 2 pack international yacht varnish.
Sailed in the National 12 Championships hosted by the RYA in Weymouth.
Spent a few years club racing in Whitstable, but then met a girl who did not like sailing, so sold the boat and bought a better car in around 1968/69.
Here's a promotional pic of the period from Mike Nokes
I have just been tearing up some old issues of Yachts and Yachting and the issue of March 1965, recorded that Sea Sled was indeed sailing at Whitstable and by a Mr.R.Davies.
