Measurement

Be aware that boats are randomly measured throughout Burton Week

The rules by which the National 12’s sail mean boats can be measured at any time and at Burton Week all boats are weighed and further measurements are taken from any boat that wins a race and random samples of any other entrants.
To speed the process there are some basic things that you can do in preparation, but always be aware that it is your responsibility to ensure that your 12 conforms to the current rules. Not only are they available in the annual handbook but you can also download them by clicking this link.

Competitors should be aware that they must bring their certificate to the event and that it will be retained by us for the duration of the event. The certificate must reflect the current sail plan and weights and have a buoyancy endorsement valid through to the end of the event. (no one wants to have to carry out a buoyancy test before racing). If a certificate is not provided then a replacement can be issued for a fee of £15, but this will only be based on the information currently on our database, so don’t forget it.

SOME OF THE BASIC RULES YOU NEED TO FOLLOW:
Your boat including mast, centre board and all permanent fixings must not weigh less than 78kg (this excludes boom, rudder and rudder stock, jib sheets and sails, but includes control lines etc).
Corrector weights should be clearly marked with their weight in kg, visible to read and permanently bolted to the hull. Centreboard weight should be permanently marked in a visible place

If you are worried about measurement or want to arrange for your boat or sails to be measured prior to the event please contact the chief measurer at technical@national12.org
