Or get hikers with them built in - the Musto range is good.

Came 115th from 123 boats overall. Good fun and certainly helped with race tactic planning. The work on the cheesewire was quite exciting - that's the first time I've seen Lake Garda from upside down horizontally and we whitnessed quite a few crashes - these guys and gals really give no quarter on the water! Average boatspeed for the event was around 12 knots upwind - we got up to around 13. Winds changable but in the last three days a steady Ora set in, the wind from the south gradually increasing to 4-5 Bft. Enough for it to be worthwhile for heavy guys like us...
So we're both going to lose 20 Kg and we can get up higher in the fleet when we all meet next year on the Ijselmeer in NL.

And no, this is NOT the end of my 12 sailing - I was just invited to sail by the organiser of the event, Sebastian Braunitzer.

Cheers!

Hi Folks!
Set off for the Worlds tomorrow. I've been invited to do the cheese-wire on one of those twin-hull thingies. We'll have 135 boats from all over the World there - 15 are coming from South Africa - and we're hoping for a good  bit of wind too. 5 boats are going from my club ESC, so it should be quite good fun. About half the fleet are going to be Brits. Perhaps we can revenge ourselves for that 2:1 defeat this week  ;D. I'll be on a boat that has GBR on one side of the mainsail and GER on the other!!! There'll be plenty of beer too!!!!
Rigging up a waterproof camera to take fotos of the fleet in action, so if any turn out to be good, I'll post them in the gallery.

Cheers!

[quote by=rick_perkins link=Blah.cgi?b=Cool1,m=1187682825,s=1 date=1187686834]I think you should stop agonising about what you can't do and start getting excited about what you can do ... so it's a lightweights boat, great, find some lightweights who want to sail a very nice racing dinghy.

Every class has an ideal weight and for the 12 it's quite light that makes it ideal for parent/child partnerships.

If I wanted to sail with my child (if I had one) then I would chose a 12, what are the alternatives a Mirror or Feva??

The 12 is a very sophisticated and elegant racing dinghy for lightweight teams. You can still build you own to your own design in your garage if you wish on a budget (large or small)... you have loads of things to be positive about, I'd stop worrying about things that the boat can't be and start getting motivated about the good bits ...

I agree with Rick on this - my daughter's coming up to 10 and weighs 45Kg -ideal to match my 92 - only problem is the "counterlever effect", due to unequal crew memberweights, but Gavin and also Mat Stiles seem to have mastered that problem at Burton Week. In the last race I had a mod. light crew  and we were flying along - although a combination of poor technique, lack of tuning and too thin Jib sheets made it difficult to compete. Lesley's hands were really badly raw and she got so tired we had to retire. We'll definitely be back next year for BW at Teignmouth, but with a lighter crew and I intend to loose a few pounds too!!! For me, heavy or not, the 12 is definitely going to be used this last bit of the season and next year.

Cheers to one and all!

Too late for that.
Examination reveals seat not in good nick, rotten in parts - mould and rot!!! and not enough foam in others.Foam that was there soaked up water. Both crews complained that the seat was getting in the way and they preferred sitting on the floor.

Janey,
You should ask Dare, but as far as the last pics show, she's mostly wood. I'll oggle at everything that's a 12 and have even been known to drool over a pint, but that's another story  ;)

Cheers!

How's Camel Week preparations  coming on?

See you lads there!!!! Can't wait!!!!

Hi Dare! What's she called?  We'll be there too, so we can all oggle at her (drool!)

Last name suggestion  --    Positively Pudding    --

How's that for spontaneity!  ;D

Saying that, probably have the same problem at BW. Still, that's all part of the fun (and everyone else's!)

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice Mike. I remember trying to get a parking for a mini traveller was bad enough and the drive through Portlemouth from Kingsbridge was pretty diabolical.

Looking forward to seeing you all at BW and SYC week.

Boing!

Back to the top! Looks like I'll be tuning up alone then! I'll bring my own pudding spoon for the blancmange!
Cheers!
