What brilliant days!!! - I just must echo Mike's thanks to all those who did so much to ensure that a fantastic time was had by all who went to Pitsford. Well done!!

Now that we've all got a taste for big fleet sailing again let's get those entries in for Burton Week nice and early and make Janet's work easier.

Cheers

The weekend is going brilliantly - The sun came out today - the wind blew. The Gill series event has been sailed for  - Tom Stewart & LIz Ross 1st, John & Katie Meadowcroft 2nd and Steve & Robby Adshead third. Lots of close racing throughout the large fleet . 77 boats today - a few more expected tomorrow though unfortunately not all of us could stay the whole weekend.

Big pursuit race tomorrow. This should be interesting. I can't decide where I would put my money - watch out for a strong showing from some very well sailed vintage boats but also Nigel Waller in the incredible evergreen Punkarella who has been showing some fantastic speed over the last couple of days.

The bouncy castle has arrived together with the sumo wrestling gear so there's entertainment for all who aren't sailing too - I wonder what the odds are on Kevan & Janet having a bounce!

That's all from me.

Good night

I'll be there with Adele, we'll be sailing on Saturday and Sunday ;D  but I need to drive home on Sunday evening so no dinner for me  :(
I'll be camping and eating at the club on Saturday. If food is early on Sunday might manage that too!

Looking forward to a brilliant weekend 8).

And yet more well deserved thanks from the South. Well done Paul and team at TVSC.

Oh to be able to remember the rounding direction of marks!

I tip the scales at nearer 15 stones than 14 and remain competitive on the river with some good open meeting results to bear thiis out (last year when sailing with around 24-25 stones all up. You're nowhere near too fat!
You can probably find a good Crusader for that sort of budget but you could do equally well with a Cheshire Cat ( I've had 2 in the past and won many river meetings in them), Tiger , Tigress or Pipedream. A Design 8 would be good but you'll probably have to stretch your budget a bit to obtain one. Final Chapters can be rather more difficult to sail quickly on narrow waters.

Happy hunting and let us know how you get on - plenty of people will be happy to give advice. Keep asking.

Do start playing with the kicker an outhaul on the water soon  - they are the most important controls after the sheets as they have a significant effect on sail shape.

General rule - outhaul off downwind for a fuller, more powrfull sail and tightish upwind - very tight when needing to depower.

Kicker also tighter upwind than down and  getting progressively tighter on each the harder it blows.

Adjustments on the water will allow you to make the most of the changing conditions around the course.

Move on to playing with the others as you feel ready.

Good luck
