The weather was brilliant - well done again Kevin! The crew you provided me with was brilliant too - pity about her helm though! Another very well organised event.

It was a shame that only such a small part of the promissed Bristol contingent found the way! The event certainly deserved a bigger turnout.

Bim,

I hope that your first sail of the year will be at Spinnaker not Ranelagh!!!!

See you there.

Don't forget to come to the most south westerly of all Thames Area Clubs for our open meeting on 18th June. Sorry for the clash for some with a social event in Brighton but the latter will go on late I'm told, so we can do both!
For those who haven't been before Spinnaker is in the New Forest just north of Ringwood. directions are on the website - follow the link from this site. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of attractions for non participating family members so why not make a family day out if you need to earn a pass to sail on the Saturday!

First start wont be before 11.00.

Look forward to seeing lots of you there.

I agree with Mike - a Final Chapter would definitely be a bit quicker on the sea with that weight but you should be able  to pick up a Cheshire Cat for less money. They are excellent all rounders and are easier to sail fast inland than the Chapter. Good luck.

I suspect that an old Firefly rudder might be very close to the original.

For those who haven't been - this is a lovely bit of river and well worth a visit.

With that weight the Rough Diamond should have the edge - Baggys are more weight sensitive - have fun and make sure you sit well back downhill in a blow on those waves.

James,

Yes, a few bits of ply should do the job nicely - you'll just have to play around to get the right number of pieces - when it gets really windy take a chock or two out.

Take a look further down the discussion board - "secret weapon required" - you could do well to look at Bosham.
The quick and easy way to control mast bend at deck level is to drop a few T shaped wooden chocks in the mast gate in front of the mast. More bend = less power - experiment with varying numbers of chocks and see how you get on. More readiy adjustable systems are available with muscle boxes, rams etc. but chocks are the cheapest way by far.

Welcome to the class - enjoy your sailing, and don't be put off if you fin your new aquisition a little tipier than expected. 12s take a bit of getting used to but ultimately reward your efforts and perseverence  like nothing else!

Is there a lightweight crew out there somewhere? - that's the missing ingredient for my weekend at the moment.

Hope to hear from someone.

Sorry I can't be there - I really wish I could, this is amongst my favourite venues. Anyone who hasn't been before should give it a go - lovely friendly club which usually seems to find a good breeze for the event.

Well hello Graham - there's a name we haven't seen in the class lately - could it be that you're thinking of returning again and showing us how its done or is this just a passing visit? There are still plenty of us old hands in the class - come and rejoin the fun!
Sorry not to have included Punkerlla - a lovely boat but not many have sailed her! The poll format limited the selection to just 7 designs.

Cheers
