GILL series results have been updated and are now on the Gill section of this site. Due to the fantastic number of entries at Northampton it is quite possible that some errors have crept in, if you spot them please let me know and I will correct them when we add the Harwich results.

Forcast looks great fot the weekend.

No crew ... no excuse!!

Nigel Playford has two available for the the weekend, both with previous N12 experience.

We have just had a count up of the boats we KNOW are intending to be there this weekend and after allowing a few more for people who don't "do the internet" it looks like we are on course for 70 - 80 boats. That is absolutely BRILLIANT.

And having just checked the BBC weather site, we are promised sunshine and force 3-4 winds. Let's hope they have it right for once.

Well, just to be different, I sail on the sea. We generally do well on handicap against the likes of people who come in the top 3 at the Finn world masters, Phantom nationals, etc and usually beat the Albacores and Lasers on the water. Against the new asymetric classes and catamarans it really does depend on the weather and the course when there is nothing anyone can do if the boat is wrong for the weather, e.g. on a tight reach in a breeze we overtake RS400's but on a broad reach they leave us standing.

As to why a 12, aside from the challenge of sailing a boat that is far more responsive and fun than the RS200 (I owned one for 2 years), we are just such a friendly bunch of people that you will miss out if you go elsewhere.

Hope that helps.

Sean (and anyone else who is unsure of where Northampton SC is), please refer to the club web-site page at http://www.northamptonsailingclub.org/NSCfindingus.htm for directions.

No need to reserve camping, there is plenty of room and it is free.

Look forward to seeing you there.

James (and anyone else interested),

We also plan on arriving early and will be happy to help out the less experienced. Look for the BIG collapsable double trailer.

The Pinnell & Bax Junior Championship will be held as part of the 70th Anniversary event at Northampton over the bank holiday weekend. It is intended that the Junior event should be held on the Sunday after the two main races. In past years, the helm/crew participants have often teamed up on the day depending on which boat they own, beg, steal or borrow. The races are generally shorter, less challenging and more informal than the main event, with the emphasis on participation and enjoyment. If you can possibly make it, then please do so.

As you may have noticed from the openning line, Pinnell & Bax are once again generously sponsoring the event and as a result, there is no entry fee although we will be asking for an entry form to be completed so that we know who is in which boat. Entry forms should be available on this site by the weekend.

Not only has the dinner sold out, but the additional 30 seats we managed to get the hotel to squeeze into the hall have also gone!! If you were thinking of coming along we can put your name on a waiting list for a last minute cancellation, but otherwise the club will be providing food for everyone who is not going to the dinner.

Tickets have been dispatched to everyone except those who have arranged to collect them on the day. If you do not rceive yours by this Saturday, please let me know.

Thanks for the fantastic support!

I intend to be there but it looks like I might have a last minute crew let down again!!!!! Anyone interested?

Also, Messrs Norbury & Hill will be practising in 3373 ahead of the 70th anniversary event. Rumour has it that they have had to go on crash diets just to get into the boat and have asked for a masthead flaot to be fitted in case they feel the urge to live up to their reputation of being friendly with the dolphins!

Jimbo, you have a metal mast that is keel stepped and has a strut so you don't need lowers. I have sailed my Baggy this way for years and don't think I have been slow anywhere as a result. I have also never had a problem tacking the jib as a result of having a strut either. The advice about making sure the mast does not move sideways at deck level is key. Make sure you follow that.

Bin the lowers, the boat will be much nicer to sail without them.

And another thing ......

The seminar on the Saturday at Trent Valley is on the subject of "How to enjoy river sailing" and will be given by Tony Edwards.

For those of you who do not remember Tony, he was a stalwart of the class for many years and one of the best river sailors of his day. In addition, Tony was winner of Burton Week in 1988 (even though it wasn't held on a river). Tony always has something interesting to say so this should make the trip to Nottingham well worth while.

Just got back from holiday to find that nobody wants to sail on Saturday!!!

Still time to change your mind, forecast is for warm sunshine and gentle breezes.
