I know this is going against the grain a bit with everyone talking about making boat simple, but has anyone considered or is using a barberhaul system for sheeting their jib further inboard. I have just bought a N3473 and as a sailmaker I have drawn plans and taken a lot of measurments for designing sails. The sheeting angle on my boat is about 13 degrees. (pretty wide) compared to a fireball or merlin that can be sheeted in at 8 degrees. Any thougths?

Really hoping to make it to Ripon. Think we need to try sailing this new boat of ours!
We will just do the return journey  in one day so no need for accomodation. Yeadon would be tempting but it is in the wrong direction for us to get home.
Looking forward to it.

I am very happy to say I now own a 12! I am proud to be the new owner of Max Factor.
We made a long journey from Glasgow to High Wycombe and back in the one day!
We are planning on sailing out of Largs and am very keen to get to as many events as I can.
all info and new pics to follow. Many thanks to John Meadowcroft for all his help.

All usefull hints thanks. My consern with having a sheet led straight off the boom to the hand is that there is no way of controling leech tention with the mainsheet. this can be very important in mediun to light conditions. The only way to controll the leech tention is with kicker tention which then starts to bend the bottom part of your mast sooner than you would idealy like. Again this would be possible but needing the use of well calibrated mast rams and gooseneck shrouds. All getting a bit complicated when the big advantages in a small dinghy are going to be changing gear quickly according to shifts and gusts!
Has anyone found over tacking a problem with a centre main? The boat is 2meters wide, making a long tiller extension? limited room if the centre main comes from the transom because you can't flip the extension around the back of the boom. Thoughts?
I am in the prosses of buying a 12 and I am trying to persuade the previous 420 helm I'm going to be sailing with that a rear mainsheet with a split tail is the way forward. Althought the strange angle of hiking is something to consider, we will have to make sure we spend equal time on both tacks to keep our backs straight!!

Any thoughts?
Has anyone, to anyones knowlage tryed putting a centre mainsheet system on a national 12? As I imagine there are some down sides to it. Space in the cockpit, extra loads etc. Also I can imagine keeping the boom on the centre line wouldn't be easy. Has anyone got any thoughts on this? I presume it is leagal?!
Many thanks, Greg.

As a sailmaker I would say that I have never seen solvents damage laminate sails. Asetone is the best, or nail varnish remover!!! New numbers should be spaced by 70mm. Hope this helps.

Hi, I am new to this web site as I am trying to buy a boat for next year. I spoke to the guys sailing at Largs this weekend. I'm based near Helensburgh on the Clyde but am used to travelling!! I saw an advert for a boat called 'Max Factor' but sadly the advert seems to have gone, anybody know if it's still for sale? Or is there anyone who would be able to help us out in getting started? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
