It's also worth remembering that many committed 12 sailors don't regularly peruse this discussion board.  Why don't you write about it in Ratchet - with photos of the lake, info about the sailing water and where people might camp or stay etc.  The other thing you might do is to raise it with the Twelve Committee and see if the idea would get "official" backing, perhaps in the form of allocating one of the Association trophies to the event.  Anyone considering the trip would want to be confident that there would be good sailing and a number of other Twelves there.  The best way to get that would be for several people to commit together, and I don't think you'll get that just from this website.

Sounds intriguing and in a completely non-committal kind of way, we could be interested???  Problem may come in finding a date ... need to avoid classic Twelve dates (RHYC, Salcombe, Burton Week etc) yet do it at a time of the year when people are minded to take a week off and holiday.

I had 3403 from new and sailed it for many years.  Like all of Nigel's boats, these were built very strongly and have stood the test of time.  These Chapters are good on open water in most wind conditions; they struggle a bit against other designs when quick tacking in restricted waters when it's light.

And for those who haven't been to Chipstead before, here's the link for directions, kindly provided by Bob Murrell:            http://www.chipsteadsc.org.uk/csc/map.htm

As the weekend beckons, time to get this thread back to the top in the hope of prompting entries for Chipstead on Saturday and Ranelagh on Sunday.  The weather's set fair so come and join in.

Sadly, Anne, Flipside and I won't be there as I have to go to New York.  Hope you all have fun.

This is a big weekend in the Thames Area - get your trailer out, organise someone to feed the cat, and mix some Chipstead lake on the Saturday with some Ranelagh tidal river on the Sunday to log 2 Thames Area qualifiers in little more than 24 hours.  And apart from Graham and Zoe, who have already qulaified with 4 straight wins, we all need it.  See you there ...

Anne, Flipside and I will be there for the whole weekend - we may even have entered already but I can't remember.  And we're looking forward to the first ever appearance at the same time on the same water of the only 5 Numini ever built.

And after Desborough today (for which thanks to the home team for organising the event), it will be good to have the choice of sailing on the same tack for more than 10 seconds.

I noticed that no-one's yet replied - if you are in Hampshire, your nearest active fleet may be at Spinnaker, not too far away.  If you can get the boat over there, I'm sure one of the fleet there would give you some advice - they're very friendly!  Alternatively, there's lots of guidance elsewhere on this website.

hmmm, interesting forecast for the later part of this week - I don't think Graham had been planning to cover "sailing in big waves" at Desborough, but this may now need to be on the curriculum.

Avoid shackles at the jib clew - they can come undone, weigh more than string and do damage when they thrash around.  I have a short length of thin spectra tied to the clew with a small plastic bobble on the end.  I just tie this to jib sheet with a double sheet bend.  I use the same method for attaching the string from the jib pole.  It always stays done up but is easy to untie when you want to.
