Yes it is legal and a few have used centre mainsheet arrangements with sucess but the problem is space which is why most people use stern sheeting with split end mainsheet set up.  My own boat when I bought it had a Laser type arrangement with stern sheeting which then ran along the boom and down from the middle to a central block on the thwart and that worked for the previous owner but not for me I took it off after the first sail!  The nice thing about a 12 is that if it works for you you can do it and I guess it is a combination of personal choice and crew size.

Hi all its the Wroxham vintage dinghy regatta this weekend and several of us (at least 3 of us from Yorkshire and one from Cheshireare) are heading off to Norfolk.  Who else is coming out to play??

Not sure that team Squidgy can make this one but I can say that this is a fantastic venue having visited recently to pick up an abandoned 12 and save it from the chain saw.  I will give it further thought and consultation with higher management though as it is such a great place to sail and a very smart set up.

Sounds great Gareth but apologies we can't support you this time.  Wearing my vintage hat I am off to Frensham Ponds on the vintage circuit.
Hope you get some 12's turning up but its a busy weekend with Frensham and Filey both in the programme the same weekend.
Have a great regatta Howard C (N2, N2266, N2769 and N3356)

Apologies from Team Squidgy Bits (and other 12's) but I am wearing my vintage hat at Trent Valley on Sunday where we have a vintage open meeting.  Brian Herring and Ian Purkis have also indicated they are going to TVSC.  On the plus side Neil and Tim are both planning to sail at Tynemouth as far as I know so have a good time chaps and see you all at Grimwith/Yorkshore Dales if not before.

When I opened my bag this weekend I found a very well used Gill spray top size medium colour blue and cream.  This can only have come from Hykeham so apologies to anyone who has lost it!!  Let me know who you are and I will post it back to you.

Hi Chaps I asked the question and the answer is from the person who listed it is:-
"Hi i've finally got this info off the seller, the year was 1959,the sail number is 1780,hope this helps"
Looks like the sail number is correct book says Procter mark 8 called Barnacle built by Rowsell.  As at 15.24 on Friday it is still at its reserve of £200.00.

Rescued from the chain saw just in time having been abandoned at Largs in 2003 the club has gone through the RYA procedures for dealing with abandoned property and have parted with her for a small sum of money.
The cover was long gone and the sails left in so the whole lot whilst sound is pretty grotty to say the least and she is badly faded.  The mast is also missing and the trolley is on the point of collapse.  I will be sorting her out over the next few months and will sail her occasionally and perhaps lend her out to some of our younger members at the club by way of introducing them to 12 sailing.  Hope my other 3 twelves dont get jealous!  Howard Chadwick N2, N2266, N2769 and N3356
I will load pics when she is looking a bit better!;D

Two people can easily turn a 12 over, an old duvet on the floor is handy.  Role her gently up on edge and get someone to balance her whilst you nip round and lower her down.  Make sure the floor is clear of any bits first though as resting on any lumps can damage the wood.  Then lift her up to a good working height as above.  Not sure how old your boat is but if she is modern and wide you ned a tall ish assistant, my wife is just over 5ft so its a stretch to reach the top gunwhale on a modern boat to balance the boat.  On the other hand if she is vintage and has a steel plate it is best to remove the plate when you get her on edge as most metal plates only locate on a slot over the pivot bolt and can fall out if the boat is upside down.  Same comment applies if you turtle an old boat, Ian Purkis lost a steel plate at Ripon last year!  Howard C aka Chadders Nvarious.

Looks like a mark10/12 to me but I have asked about sail numbers and any number on the thwart or transom if its that old.  I will post up any info I get.  From what I can see it looks expensive for the age I think it is and the fact that its all painted etc.:-/

Hi Jonathan, happy to part with what little knowledge I have so lets just chat at Naburn on Sunday (maybe Saturday as well) or just give me a call anytime the numbers in the book. Cheers Howard AKA Chadders (courtesy of Paul T)

Fantastic weekend and the organisation was spot on as was the company!  The work that went into organising it all must have been tremendous and it showed, if you werent 90 miles away I would think about joining.  Thanks to Hykeham and all involved I look forward to visiting again.  Steve was also a star doing all the results and suppying half the fleet with crews as well, my Sunday crew Kate was excellent.  Thank you all.  Howard C
