What size of pond?  I sail at a small ish gravel pit (South Cerney) - generally beat the ass'y types both on water and on h'cap (even those much faster) - maybe our fleet isn't that top!

We have one Laser guy (good) thats just started out in RS200 - seem to be keeping up on beats, off wind we go direct and often no change in the distance between us - IF they can go direct with kite on good reach they can draw ahead - overall I would say the N12 is far more suited to these types of water than the RS200 (or other Assy generally).

The Albacores & Solos at our Club seem to do best overall 'traditional classes'.

Blimey - how did you get them to agree to 1104!!  Having said that still can't yet get ahead of the top Solo boys even on water (but getting much closer now!).

Before you set up a centre try looking at a few others that do off boom sheeting - some of the new boats do it (I know Gavin Willis in his 'weird' looking boat does it well) - I'm sure someone can point you in his direction.

More practise needed, think new boat is more suited but Baggy on a good reach is a blast.

Barry - is that a spot of creative accounting?  see 3364 is now 3368??

Can't be there either - but I'm sure you will get help and wonder round the boats gives you many ideas of how 12s can be set up.

I've definitely improved since by visit to Trent V going to see other N12s and talking / looking helps out loads.

Any thoughts on having quick multiple races in a similar vein?

John,  THG has had several visits to other places, Bristol (swimming), Avon (Swimming), Trent (drifting) and a few home sails.  Enjoying the boat and learning how to set up and get best out - last night we were going very well until.....

Just curious, last night managed to sail in big thunderstorm lots of lightening etc - had to retire too, after being in a nearly winning position 3 laps in  :'(  (smalll crew not too happy being out in all that wind / rain / flashes) - so is it any safer being struck by  lightening with a carbon or a tin rig??

Anyone knows what happens??

Thanks to TVSC and all involved - an enjoyable (but with its own frustrations) weekend.  At least the rain held off until after we got back home.

Only minor comment was evening meal which had a few odd combinations - but having said that about only time Ethan didn't finish all the pudding up!

Learnt lots too,  need to practise tacks more.  At least the gravel pit will now seem much bigger (roll on Wednesday).

Avon is a lovely location - there were 4 of us who enjoyed the river, interesting wind and some great hospitality.

Race one then free cup of tea & biscuits.
Race 2 then a good lunch.
Race 3 followed by free tea & homemade cake (lovely).

We even managed to finish all the races despite a few more swims (again).

Barry,

The dangly pole is tied to the clew via the blue rope / bobble at the end of the pole.  It doesn't have to be tight and as long as you do a loop through with the bobble it should stay fixed on.

It all worked ok for me.  Try rigging up on shore - pulling the downhaul via the block / cleat should set the pole to horizontal and push out the jib.

Anyone else planning on going river sailing?  Conditions look more suitable than BCYC!

Barry,

The simple rack works fine with the jibs you have (I set the chocks and the luff tension on shore and never bothered changiing) - the only issue I found was when I purchased a 'new' jib with longer luff length then had to mess around with a rope loop to get the fixed wire length correct (worked most of the time but one time my knot slipped off - ooops no rig tension).

I think there's plently to learn and play about with and on small lakes it doesn't make much difference.
