Two Horses is alive and kicking in Salcombe. The attached photo's were taken on the first day of the 2011 Salcombe Festival Classic Boat Regatta being sailed by her owner John Wylie.

2011 Salcombe Festival 10th â€" 12th June

New for this year will be a vintage dinghy regatta.
Starting on Friday this will be a 6 race regatta under the SYC and British Classic Yacht Club burgees.

Any dinghy built before 1970 is invited to race â€" and with the Twelve’s that cut off is 2517 and older according to my handbook. So far there are 4 boats saying they will appear and a certain Mr Howlett has indicated that he will be racing a Merlin (not a Merlin Rocket!!), so come on all you with ‘golden oldies’ ‘tis time to have a third (fourth?) bite at the Salcombe experience this year. It should be fun and the tides are high neaps midday...........................

If anyone wants more information give me a call, I appreciate it clashes with the Gill at Annadale and Spinnaker but the timing isn’t anything to do with SYC, honest!
The Festival website is http://www.salcombefestival.com/

Meds,
Yes the Club wil be open as usual on the Friday. We may have access to a 'big screen' so that Royalists can indulge their passions whilst the Republicians can enjoy a day off on the Royalists..................................
Oh, and everyone can sup more beer at the Bar too!

Having put together 3 or 4 DB boats, I have always gone for a combination of independently adjustable shrouds with their tails led to a common adjustment for both sides. In essesence corse / fine adjustment  The jib was always on a pully system which , when the rig was let off down wind, allowed the rig to be stabilised. You will definately benefit from swinging spreaders - my preference is the Proctor, sorry Selden!, limited swing adjusters, not the cheapest option admittedly but work well. There are many other benefits of such a system, not the least being able to rake the rig upwide as the breeze comes on!

I have some drawings somewhere of the system that was put into 3444, 3505 and 3510 and would work well in a Crusader as there is more room. I will try to dig them out and post them in this topic.

Ok somewhat off Twelve sailing I appreciate but.......................

Here in Salcombe we are celebrating Brian our steward's 25th year of employment with a party on 12th March. We are inviting all SYC members past and present along with Brian's friends - you lot!!!!

Tickets will be £10.00 per person which includes a supper and a band ( Signs of Life ) playing folk / barndance music.
If you want to come down for a party night let me know or ring Jools in the SYC bar - 01548 842872

Slightly earlier than '95.
3396 definately had a carbon mast from new and she was built in 1994 and first measured on 26th July 1994. That mast was one of the original Proctor 'tree trunks' and totally from memory and I stand to be corrected but I think that she may have been the first Twelve with a carbon mast from new.
I remember at the time everyone questioned as to whether a carbon mast could be made to work and seeing many of the earlier examples on Merlins exploding on reaches in Salcombe gave creedance to those doubts! The early Twelve carbon masts were basically Merlin masts adjusted to fit a Twelve and in truth weren't a lot lighter than an ally mast.

Picture found in the Salcombe archives. Nothing to indicate a date or who are the hems or crews.

The immediate reaction of both David Greening and myself was that 2268 was a Clean Sweep design.
