Boats / Re: N2433 Penny Pincher

My 2nd Twelve.

I bought her in 1973 and enjoyed considerable success at club level at Henley SC for a couple of years - She was originally built for Graham Pearce who gave her the name, the first of a few Penny's. I  took her to Burton Week at Pevensey Bay ( my first)  and a few open meetings - her claim to fame is picture of her at Lymington easter regatta in the Guiness Book Of Yachts and Yachting Feats - not for anything special, just being there when the photographer was about!

I believe that she has now fallen into disrepair - or worse.

925 was my first boat - bought in 1972 for the princely sum of £80.  I spent the winter rubbing down; painting and varnishing - she looked resplendent in bright red.

We sailed her at Henley SC - never anywhere near the front of the fleet. One day someone's boom caught the forestay and the wooden mast came tumbling down. I borrowed a club boat for a while (Enterbox - sorry!). We suddenly found that we were near or at the front of the fleet so the decision was made to upgrade - sold her at the end of the season for £90.

Sounds like Scottish social workers should feel indebted to the NTOA!

Hope the wall paper stayed on the wall and you're not wrapped up in it Angus!

I'll think about it- but my thoughts will be from a beach in Australia!

Twelves usually put in a good showing at this event - Hopefully some of you an make it and build on the sucesses of the Bloody Mary and the Battle of the Classes!

There's no mention in the newsletter of the huge help that John & Katy Meadowcroft have given me in putting it together and getting it printed - so I'll put that right; here.

Thanks you two!

I remember 25% VAT - I seemed to have a lot of trouble with leaking bouyancy bags at the time and was delighted that they classed as safety equipment and attracted the lower rate!

The good news was that prizes for the numerous club series that Henley SC ran were vouchers for the local chandler!

Wonder if we'll see as many starters on Sunday?

Thanks for responses - I've spoken with both potential purchasers this evening and each have now arranged to look at some 12's. I'll keep you posted.

The Spinnaker fleet goes from stength to strength!

Yes - and lots of it!

Matt Stiles with his son in 3143 also put in a very good showing finishing 18th demonstrating that you don't need a new double bottomed boat to do well. I suspect plenty of rainwater bailing  though! We were mifed by the number of places we lost to Merlins in the extra quater of an hour or so it took us to reach a finish line beyond the 2.5 hours. I guess we just should have satyed closer to the leaders!!
