It would indeed be a shock to most people not to have the Tornado in the Olympics. I crew a Dart 18. It's a simple but great boat. Designed by the same person who did the T. You can really get a blast on a D, but a T inspires youth to take up sailing as a sport, being more hi-tech etc. More so in my opinion than a keelboat, which would hardly ever get its nose up, let alone glide. (exclude flying 15s etc).

So I recommend you sign the petition and ignore the "would you like to contribute?" bit at the end.

Yeah, I know all that, but what's with the big bad decks?

By the way, don't disturb Mike at the moment - he's got enough tension in his rig due to someone filing an Australian patent application directly affecting Moths. Goes against the grain of those who believe boat design should be open source (nothing against the rights of the designer, but a patent restricts design too much).

Made it by the skin of our teeth!!!!
But Derek and crew've been put immediately after a snot green coloured yot that I don't recognise. Any ideas anyone? Looks very dramatic.

Ted,
It might not be correct, but I sheet in  with the hand not holding the tiller, and use the thumb of the tiller hand to trap the sheet, whilst the free hand grabs another length. There's a good example of someone doing it on the N12 promotion DVD, pulling like frantic, rapidly, pull, trap, pull, trap. I think it's the one with the Dandy Warholes' track. "You got a grat car ..Yeah what's wrong with it Today, etc...." Sorry - can't sing! I know it sounds daft, but it works!

Hope that helps,

Thanks Jim and Simon. I've been looking at a few Pics. The questions to ask are: 1)How far apart should the split be across the transom?  and 2) How long should each split be? I guess the second is partly dependent on the first, but the problem remains to determine the length, it being nice I suppose to still have twist even when the boom is at the centre-line. ???? My old Nutty Shell Tigress has a split arrangement which is really a second horse which the mainsheet is simply knotted on to. If I buy up some dynema I can experiment with the required length of the split ends as well as their positions on the transom, but I don't want to make too many (new) holes in the yot. Any (further ) advice greatly received  :D

Cheers!

Hi!
Can anyone advise on split main setup? How many blocks do you need etc. and what' s the ideal distance apart for the split ends? We've got a dynema horse at the moment that's too narrow and I can't develop enough main twist - as - inter alia - evidenced in our abysmal efforts going upwind at BW this year - not to mention being overweight, having an unmotivated and "tender" 1st. crew who almost threw in the towel at the practice race until I promised her that the wind would drop at the start of the fisrt offical race (which, luckily, it did) etc etc winge winge  :-/

Anyway, if anyone could post a pic of a typical setup, I'd be very grateful. I could then translate that into a setup where in our case the transom's pretty much not in existence.

Thanks!   :)
