Tell me, did you do the spray work yourself? If so what paint/varnish thinners ratio did you work to? For the initial two coats of epoxy did you thin both coats?

Thanks everyone for the extremely helpful advice.
One other question. I will most probably be doing some club handicap racing, S/H, from time to time. Is there a specified handicap rating that has been adopted across clubs that I can suggest to the RO for SH sailing without raising eyebrows when I appear at the start line on my jacks!?

Evening. I have posted before regarding this subject but not reached any conclusion so any comments on the subject welcome. Is it possible to sail a 12 using the main only and the jib halyward acting as a forestay. Only my 12 isn't really set up for singlehanded sailing and keen to get out as much this year with or without crew but dont want to be restricted only to days of F1 & F2 if going solo.

I have an older N12 3126 which I would like to sail single handed. This subject has been touched on recently on the this forum but I wanted to know two things really firstly, is single handed handicap sailing in 12's quite common place and secondly, what alterations would I need to make to my boat to give ease of sailing? Does anyone have any photos they could post or email me as a guide?

As a relative newbie to the N12 class having, believe it or not, come from sailing merlins on and off for 20+ years, the Merlins went through a tough time in the early 2000's, with stagnating designs and weird ideas but what revived the class to that of one which is now very healthy, is a strong 2nd hand market and sensible decisions being made by the committee to shut down splinter groups that wanted winged rudders, smooth hulls etc,etc. Whilst the Merlin is a restricted developemnt class and innovation is encouraged, boats of all ages remain competitive providing excellent racing across a wide range of designs . I am no expert in the N12 class but if you do not start to police what is good or bad for the class then you will end up very quickly like the I14 which has become 'cheque book' sailing for the elite!!
I love the 12 and Merlin, always have done, but if you are not careful the back bone of the class (mid fleet sailor) will migrate to a class where they can enjoy competitve sailing on a level playing field. 

Hello. I have aquired another N12! 3122 Red Baron. Genrally the decks etc are all in good condition but there is some quite serious delamination of the ply inside the hull floor. My plan was to remove as much of the old rotten ply as possible back to solid and laminate with e-glass and epoxy building up layers to add strength. Where this has occured arounf the floor and the centre bpoard case I intend to epoxy fillet to again create strength. It won't be a work of art but will keep the old girl alive and sailing. There are a number of other items that need to be carried out but think I can deal with these, but the delamination issue is my biggest concern and wandered whether there were any other tips/steer that can be offered before I begin my epic journey to get her on the water ready for the Desborough open next year.

Have aquired this boat from Desborough SC. Really good look craft but does need quite a lot of work done to the hull floor. Lots of expoxy and e-glass!! Hope to sail her at the Desborough SC open next year refurb and weather permitting.

Thanks guys. Measured pole it is 1.3m? Sounds like I need to find something about 1.6m long.
