hello

as i set to work with winter maintanence - i just wondered can anyone summarise how to best empty a crusader when it is heavily water logged . some of the old threads i dont seem able to read. i know u bear off on a reach - but any other advise ? it seems very tricky

also - any tips for where to buy dingy paint? Rascal is a lovelly light blue and trying to colour match it

i do worry taking racal to far out of sight of shore when at sea - due to issue with gettting back sailing again after capsize - mostly stick to roadford reservior (devon)

thanks for any help

Hello,

I have been reading the online tuning guides and intend to get to some coaching sessions - but to keep me going can anyone help with below?
Mast bend. I still dont really understand how bending the mast - de powers the sail - is there a simple explanation . also when i tension the mast ram - it pushes the mast bottom back aft - i thought this put bend on the mast but I dont think it does from reading the tuning guide? it seems taking tension off the mast ram puts bend on it ...seems the wrong way round to me ? wording in txtx says increase stay tension and take off mast ram tension to bend mast. But the ram when tensioned pushes the bottom of the mast from forward to back direction of the boat

Kicker - I generally have this loose on when reaching or running then tight when beating to wind . It seems to me the kicker does little when beating to wind - but its main use is to keep the boom down when reaching or running . I am just using rule when i  use it to make sure top batten is parrallal to boom.
thanks for any help and great forum

Hello
Few questions
Has anyone any buoyancy bag recommendation for n3247 rascal - crusader type. Capsized at weekend at water 3 inches above centreboard - more in boat than the lake . Despite efforts could not get it on a reach and it ended up being dragged by safety boat to beach for draining - if I get a couple of 12x36 bags - would these with straps be ok to fix with screws into wood at back ? Do I risk puncturing the internal buoyancy it has ?

also - can u reef a 12 - guess possible to roll main around boom - make a strap in fold for kicker

lastly - lost job ropes and shackles in capsize - anyone know a good online shop for national 12 ropes and bits

its a fun sail but rascal is pretty in forgiving to learn in (-;

John - wow thanks for pics and your help sat. It was great to get boat on water after all the help to my rigging questions that week. I am sailing again 25th and 26th April. So much support from fellow 12 sailors. Fantastic association. Jeremy kicker was spot on

Green line with pulleys is kicker - but green free end of rope I can not figure out how to connect to yellow control line that runs aft
The green line wants to pull up totighten , but control line pulls down

John,
thanks , saling at roadford lake in devon at moment. Based there for summer but live in woking, so thinking of joint burg field near reading in autumn.stating to work out most of it! The Cunningham is a bit confusing, can't see a separate block and take fir it, maybe it just links in using a strap from the kicker?

Hello. Just bought Rascal- my first national 12. not sailed since an enterprise 15 years ago. Plan to do some gentle days then get into some club racing. The boad is fully tuneable, mast ram, kicking strap, outhaul, dangly pole etc. The club I have joined has no other national 12's at the moment. I have spent a windy set on land trying tomaster the rig and what ropes do what. I want to set the boat up properley rather than lash things together in what seems to fit. I see the guides on the forum. Does anyone know of any other good books etc  - I really need a picture guide of how all the below is set up:
- Kicking strap
- Mast Ram
- MAin sheet
- Jib
-Outhaul
- Cuningham
Apart from the guides on this site - can anybody direct me to any other resource ?? Pictures and arows best to really make it simple

Thank You
James
