Equity has recently been sold to Ian Cowdale who will be sailing her at Himley Hall as soon as the weather warms up a bit. Good luck Ian and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of her as Janey and I have over the years.

3306 from RLSC (and formerly North Staffs Sailing Club) will also be there.  Looking forward to sailing at our old club again!

No NO NOOOOOOO the National 12 is a double hander and should stay that way.  If you want to get a single hander that's not a Laser invest in a Solo.  Mike and I are 21 stone all up and sail a 15 year old Crusader and very few in our club can touch us!  We are constantly practicing and striving to make the boat go as fast as we can WITHIN class rules.  We have sailed big opens as well, such as Bala where we've won  meetings, The Anglesy offshore where our best result was 4th (up against RS 400, RS 200 numerous GP's several Merlins and the odd 49er) Rock Camel regatta where we won the Rock Trophy( I won;t beging to list the boats we were up against there!)  As mentioned before there are ways and means (IF you have the experience) of making a National 12 go damn fast, we should concentrate on that and not turning them into single handers.  Most of the old (sorry) National 12 sailors can make their boats move by tweaking and practice and experience.

Hi Valhalla!

We have Crusader 88 and are about 20 stone all up weight helm & crew.  We sail VERY competitively at our local club and my partner is also a VERY experienced river sailor (Thames).  

I have also crewed Fuzzy Duck with her old...old...old owner Don Muir.  She was damn fast!  Have a look at her if she's a beautiful as she was last time I saw her (2005) you won't be disappointed.

As some of you may know I also sail a B14 (skiff) where the crew does as much, if not more than the helm in the sailing of the ship.  Crewing a National 12 has helped me no end when I jumped into the B for the first time.  My helm and I adopt a "teamwork" attitude.  Good communication is essential and I'm afraid so is experience.  There's no point whatsoever expecting a person who has never crewed at all or who has limited experience in crewing to be able to jump into a National 12 and crew to winning standard.  If I can remember back that far the 1st time I crewed a National 12 I had'nt a clue, and the result spoke for itself!  The weight distribution is a major factor the times I see helms hiking for all they are worth whilst the crew sits there on the seat doing b***er all!  The main rule is KEEP IT FLAT!!!!!!  and COMMUNICATE and I don't mean shout or sulk and LEARN BY YOUR MISTAKES and LISTEN TO YOUR HELM If he or she has more experience than you.  And lastly remember YOU ARE A TEAM the only way you will win or even come close is to work as a team and if you don't you'll only build resentment and that is non-productive.  My helm and I win on a regular basis but it's taken a while as his ex-wife who used to crew was good and I was not.  Now I am good we make it happen.

Can I just say........you lot have got it easy    I need to be light for the 12 and heavy for the B14.....work that one out!   Do I eat pies or do I not eat pies!!  THAT is the question

Another good venue is the Camel Regatta at Rock in Cornwall.  We've done it for 4 years now and in the 12 for all, except this year's, when we took the B14.  We won the Rock Trophy last year in the 12, certainly better than our results this year.......although not quite as fast!!

What a good idea Paul.  There are only 2 12's at our club (North Staffs)...there were 3 but "Fuzzy Duck" has moved on, however although the water area at our club is fairly restricted (as in small) it is ideal for 12 sailing and we are rarley not in the top 3 as far as the results go. I am also the Vice Commodore of our club and so I will print off your suggestion and take it with me to the next meeting. I'll let you know what sort of response it gets.
