Has anybody explained to Richard and Judy......ah Duncan that Felixstowe is east of Brixham?

There are now 3 DCBs resident in Scotland and recently two of them were racing at Tummel Week. I was approached by one of them to organise an event at North Berwick (East Lothian Yacht Club). This is quite possible to do in conjunction with ELYC regatta  which is usually help early June. It would be really good if we could get sufficient numbers to get our own start and then we could make it the Scottish Championship and a Dinghy Shack event.
For those of you who don't know where North Berwick is it is just a few miles up the A1 from Newcastle and is easily accessible from the south coast. The sailing is on the sea but does not normally require a long sail out. launching is easy off a sandy beach. with Global warming temperatures in the 20s can be expected and the water is renown as the warmest in the north sea! It is a big holiday area so there is lots for any none sailors to do if you want to bring the whole family.
This would be an extra event if there is sufficient interesting not replacing Annandale or Solway.
Please let me know if you would be interested in attending such an event either directly or through Graham Camm.

Another event that people may be interested in is Tummel week which is held in the last full week in July. This is a fun week with lots of fun things going on besides the sailing which is fairly relaxed. It is especially good for young families. Camping is available on site and camper vans and caravans can be accommodated. Loch Tummel is in the heart of the Highlands in the shadow of the 3000ft Schiehallion. If anybody is interested in this please get in touch.

Who's coming out to play, Annandale 22nd May. I think the 1st race will start at 12 mid day but I am waiting for conformation.
This event counts towards the Lairdwell Trophy and the Border Trophy.

Just a minor point. If your mast is deck stepped you will require a forestay or something to stop the mast falling down when you lower the jib. I believe this is a requirement in the rules. Not normally a problem with a hog stepped mast which your boat probably is.

General National 12 chat / Re: Sycamore

I'm not totally sure but I think Maple and Sycamore are more or less the same thing when it comes to wood. If the Maple comes from the America it is probably a kind of Maple as I don't think they have Sycamore! Sycamore is a kind of Maple. I think UK grown Maple is quite likely to be Sycamore.
Don't know if that helps you.

It has been held up by the printers, apparently it is a busy time of year for calendars ( I would have worked that into there scheduling!). But it \should be wing its way towards you early next week providing this new variant of covid lets me out of the house.

Great news everybody, as a special Black Friday offer we are extending the deadline to Midnight Sunday 28th November. Actually this has nothing to do with Black Friday, apparently printers don't work on Saturdays and Sundays. But remember Calendar must be ordered and paid for before midnight or come January the 1st you will have a blank spot on the wall and you won't know what day it is!

Catch yourself a 2022 National 12 Calendar for the princely sum of £7.99. Email me at angusbeyts at gmail.com with numbers and address and I will give you details how to pay. Don't hang around because as soon as I get enough orders I will be getting them printed and there will be only one run! Miss it and you will have to wait for next year.

Hi Paul, While May is a long way away I certainly hope to be there complete with a rejuvenated Reflection. I'll try not to leave so much stuff behind this time ::)

Self bailer, unless your asking about the wing of a peacock butterfly!

Hi Philip, I remember you, we used to race each other for last place back in the day. It would be great to see you back in a 12. With the weights your talking about, I would agree with the others that a Final Chapter is probably the boat for you. On T foils, while there is no doubt they make a big difference particularly to boats designed for foils, from my limited experience you have to get everything right before you can take full advantage of the foil, and when you get it wrong it can go very wrong! Which ever way you go I am sure you will have great fun. I would suggest particularly if you sail at a club that will give you the age related handicap to start off with an AC boat which people can hardly give away at the moment, when you get sailing well then think about a late Final Chapter and think about fitting a foil.

Unfortunately it has been decided to cancel Annandale. My apology to all those planning to attend. Lets hope Solway can go a head.

Regarding a T foil, it depends a bit on what you want to do, if you want to be a competitive as possible then it is probably worth it and need not be all that expensive. Graham Camm has written some very good stuff on the theory behind foils and how to make them. Several people will make and fit you a foil if you don't want to do it yourself. I had a foiling rudder fitted to a feeling foolish which Patrick Hamilton seems to be doing quite well with (I sold it to him when I decided I needed a boat I could sit in!). Dare Barry fitted a foiling rudder to the last Man O War he built I think so it maybe worth contacting him.
