first question - is it worth it?
second question - I take it should be as simple as planing  them off, then repainting the hull? in that they contribute little to the stiffness of the hull?

the picture I put in the boat DB, is Pixie sailing inside the East Harbour at Granton.
the picture of the boats in the regatta is Granton again, so is probably Wardie-bay.
the swamping is happening up against the Granton East breakwater in Wardie-bay again.
this is the only other N12 Picture my mother could find - no idea who it is. (342) ??
 

it must be sailing from Granton, but looking at the background, its definitely to the West of Granton nearer Cramond.
I have a picture of the Hornet too - no 666!!!

We used to get a good turnout at Scottish events -

you did look vaguely familiar when I met you it Blaydon.....
My parents are quite well known in East-Coast Sailing circles.
The big debate right now, is what was the sail number of my Grandad's N12 - there are plenty of numbers being "remembered", but they are all different... any ideas????
Hopefully I will make it along to Annandale - still planning on it, but may only manage the Sunday due to Crew rebellions and tow-car issues (and, I think I need to do a wind-dance to make sure I keep moving!)

Not camping - will be commuting from the house!

3223 will be there, but I think we will outweigh Ed and Angus..........

you have just described exactly what Ive been doing for most of this seasons (very limited) outings in 3223!

cheapest ferry to Orkney was Pentland ferries this year.
I paid £63 each way for a car (2 adults one child) - dont know how much extra a trailer would be. - this ferry drops you at diagonally oppsite end of Orkney (almost) from Scrabster, but the drive isnt far, and doesnt take long.
Only issue is the ferry is small, and you need to get off over the same ramp you get on on - may mean unhitching the boat
I saw plenty of these Snipes sailing in St Marys - we had hired a house on Burray for the week.
I did think a couple of times that Scapa would be a good place for the 12 (but as usual, the handicap would probably ruin it!)

3223 is cracking too! at the point where the hull flexes most - at my feet! - she does appear to be painted with 2-pack as it is brittle and chips when damaged. I dont think I will use 2-pack when I get round to sorting it.

Just to say that this was a fantastic event, and lived up to the fond memories I had from being there in the early 80's.

It was interesting to sail against other N12's but quite demoralising when your in a 30 year old Boat trying to sail on 1089 in a handicap fleet!!.

Thanks to Mark and Angus for a few pointers before they disappeared off into the distance - both daughters who crewed with me enjoyed themselves, especally the one who wasnt really planning on going sailing - she loved it and wants to come out in the boat more.


It was "entertaining" to find that 3223 floats happily 6 inches underwater after a capsize, and if one of the transom-flaps falls off, there is nothing you can do to empty the boat - DNF no.1, plus if there isnt much wind, you cant empty it without a bucket as it doesnt sail fast enough to empty (DNF no.2) - Lesson(1) - DONT CAPSIZE!!

We had occasional (of VERY brief) moments of keeping up with Angus and Mark, till our lack of experience caught us out and we disappeared backwards down the fleet - much more practice is required, but as we are now (after 9 races) just into double-figure on times out in the boat, I suppose I shouldnt expect too much.

Now... off to the garage to repair the couple of broken bits and survey the diary for our next possible outing.....
