As one of the flying 12s at Salcombe, we are not very good at DIY and all things crafty but our local 12 fleet had an away day in a barn making foils a few days  before the open. I was a bit worried it might not hold as it was still being patched with plastic and sanded the day before but it held and it was very windy. We ahd the chance to contemplate it from all angles ( including upsdie down)  So with the right tutor and support it was possible to construct one in a day and fettle it in one more day. May be Malcolm's idea of a ready made could also include 'tutored away days'?

Thank you for coming , wow what a windy weekend ( again!). Fantastic close racing , some spectacular capsizes, the Days actualy took off on the start line! Well done John & Ollie Meadowcroft who were the winners, Mike Hoyle and Katie Meadowcroft 2nd ,Chris and Sophie Day 3rd and Lloyds first local boat or endurance award?   as the only local boat to complete all 3 races. Kerry's big foil flew, Charlie's newly constructed foil not only survived but made the runs faster and more stable, thanks to Simon for aid with the construction. Indecision calmly  looked beautiful as only a well kept vintage (and Freya) can. 
Thank  you everybody for  a lovely birthday , I certanly had a birthday bath!

What a nice surprise long time no see! We have a half constructed rudder in the garage after a rudder work party today (that is the original no longer exists) ..so interesting times ahead on Saturday!

Hi All at SYC are looking forward to welcoming you. I believe the Saturday racing starts at 1.50 (it does every week so don't think it will be different)  but will get it on the SYC website asp and confirm on N12 website.  The Sunday is usually 2 races one in the morning, pasties on the beach and then an afternoon race. It takes a little while to sail out of Batson to the start line, say 20 mins.  If you get to the start early you can always pull up on small 's cove . We have our boat at Batson now also. On the Saturday evening there is a meal laid on for us £15 pp with a singer Becky Brine to entertain us (families welcome sure ther is a lesser cost for under 12's)  Rosie L is available to crew on the Saturday but not Sunday. Let us know if you need her to crew. If you can indicate by reply how many would like the Saturday eve meal and Sunday pasties it would help with the food orders.

Come along to Salcombe! Open meeting on 18th & 19th Oct. Salcombe yacht club has promised 2 days of racing, a meal in the chart room on Sat eve, musical entertianiment and the popular pasties on the beach. The Harris clan and Ballantine senior duo  have been tempted back on the water in their 12s. This year we have neap tides with high for afternoon racing so the full estuary will be available.. Kerry is keen to meet up with N12 sailor Enri the French chap at Burton lastyear as Kerry now has a paris posting, plus a foiling rudder that had him overtake a Merlin with spinnaker today.  
The event comes hot on the heels of a successful sunny regatta, in which the Meadowcrofts and Thorntons battled it out at the front of the fleet , with a close call of the Thorntons winning. The rest of the fleet was always shifting position dramatically , with Mike Hoyle eventually taking 3rd overall but new boy on the block Ben Baker  has coined the phrase 'Baked off' as he and Tilly kept doing things that should n't work and shaking up the whole fleet ( literally) . Lots of fun, Indecison , Para docs and strictly Pc juggling places daily and the Rew crew improving to worry the fleet.

Wow guys, thanks for coming. Think this one will go down as squally Sunday only rivalled by Windy Wednesday in folk legend. Ollie you can say you were there... respect young man.  Hannah thank you for doing rescue boat with me. I don't think I have ever had 27 capsized boats at once to deal with, at 7 and stuck in the mud.  Apologies now if we took our time or didn't get to you, some rapid prioritising was going on.What a squal, rumours say 47 something nt sure if that was knots or Mph.   It was a lot anyway. Sorry we couldn't stay to say goodbye we had to get Rosie to Bristol .

The Salcombe fleet look forward to welcoming visitors for the National 12 and solo open meeting on 19th October. There will be racing on the Saturday afternoon and two races on the Sunday. Check out the, beautifully designed by Sophie M, Salcombe Yacht Club website for info. We have arranged a meal for the Saturday night for sailors and family and friends in the spectacular club house and hot pasties will be delivered to Smalls beach for those who pre-order and pay! It helps the kitchen if you can let them know numbers for the meal and pasties by the Thursday 17th.  Child size meals are available for the under 12's. Harbour dues are waived for the weekend, but not boat park fees, sorry, out of our control. We will bring the cricket stuff for a game of French cricket on the beach after racing on Saturday. The harbour should have fewer yachts by then enabling you to use your full skill set dodging the tide and seeking the Salcombe specials those nifty lifts and gusts that seem to gravitate towards Peter B and Theo. Who will and wont have a foil? will it change the pecking order? Norman is going very well in the light airs beware. Will you be there?

HI  As locals (I grew up there but now we live an hour away so stay over in regatta)  who camp we've tried Higher Rew and Ilton Farm. Higher Rew- nice site but a drive in and usually use the park and ride.  Ilton Farm is nearer but has more basic loos etc. but has estuary views. Cycle path links to the town.  Some times we buy a boat park space at Batson/the dump for the week , this way you can park your boat by night and your car by day. One family camp every year at Karrageen but again it is a drive in. Some people camp at Prawle , basic but quite a community of annual hardy campers who congragate at the Pig's Nose pub and drive down to park in NT car park at Mill Bay.  The disadvantage is that evening activities at the club would be remote.
We're probably heading for Ilton or Ilton castle.  Alston Farm is also near by but I've not tried it since student days and that was a long time ago.

At the back and the front of the local fleet we love all the visitors arriving. The younger sailors dominate the front of the fleet and are up with the people who do open meetings etc. the remainder of us will give plenty of competion further down the rankings.   We hope to have beach games on Smalls cove (by start and finish line) after sailing probably Monday. There is under 18 race one night for 12's.  The social programme is pretty good, we aim to camp at Ilton Farm for the week. Club showers and food are good. If you can buy a week long space at Batson /the Dump and park the boat there by night and the car by day or travel to Mill Bay each day, we travel over in a kayak or cadge a lift in a rescue boat. Think of the tide as you race, it often is as much a decider as the wind! Keep out of the wind shadow of the local design yawls ( 3 sails big bow sprit) .  Have fun it is a truly beautiful place. Mike Hoyle is stilllooking for a crew any ideas?
