Originally owned by Dr Dan Miller at Northampton, she was bought by Hugh Bailey around 1970. The first Twelve sailed by Richard and Graham Bailey, future Burton Cup winner

This is Smokescreen. We had her from new at Northampton Sailing Club until she was sold to Ron Stuart. She was originally white before acquiring a dark green 'Pipedream' stripe. She was a lovely boat, very good in light winds, particularly after acquiring Bouncer's Burton-winning jib. She won opens in 1978 at Northampton and Ulley and also Bassenthwaite and Derwent Weeks. She also finished 7th on Black Tuesday at Tynemouth Burton, Week in 1979, rounding the first weather mark about tenth and then surviving to the gybe mark behind John Royce before two capsizes and lots of nose-dives. She always carried Alverbanks and in those days a stiffer than normal Needlespar 28.
