too polish or not too polish?

that is the question...

ive got a design 8 which when i got it, it was yellow, ive cleaned her up as it looked a mess, i have polished her and she looks good shiney,  but over the years i have heard that boats that are polished are slower and wet and dry is the way to go,

 i will put it this way! i am not of a ability that it would matter but i would be interested what people think

As far as I am aware the only person who's done any testing is Bethwaite, and he found that you can never have too smooth a surface. The law of diminishing returns probably kicks in after about 600 grit, but it isn't going to make you slower.

You hear folk saying that a surface on which the water spreads outinstead of forming beads must be faster, but that's pure noinsense - the beads or otherwise are a function of the surface tension of the water, which is irrelevant in something that's immersed...
