14th Feb: Ranelagh open / Thames Area lunch

We will be holding the Thames Area annual lunch and prizegiving, as has become the custom, at Ranelagh SC, after the Ranelagh Winter meeting.  The date is Sunday 14th February 2010.  The start time of the race will be 13.15 with a late lunch at approx 3.30.  Earlier eating arrangements will be made for children. Lunch will be £10 adults, £5 children. All are welcome, regardless of whether you're sailing that day or have competed in the Thames Area in 2009.

Fourteen brave souls in seven boats showed their commitment to the cause by sailing in the Thames Area's first meeting of the year for the Royal Thames YC Trorphy.  With a strong flood tide flowing against a gentle breeze, and a crowd of chanting spectators (on their way to Fulham FC), the fleet sped off on the beat upstream, led round the first mark by Jon Ibbotson and Charlotte Stewart.  They picked the right course back running against the current to lead at the end of the first lap from Mike and Alex Storey, with Will and Mary Henderson third.  Jon and Charlotte held a solid lead throughout the second lap with Will and Mary taking second, and John and Mandy Thornton coming through to third.  With the tide turing, lunch beckoning and hands getting colder, the race officer shortened the course at the end of the second lap.
