Anyone shed any light on Gryphon 3214?
She looks like a nice boat, was she a  one off design? was she quick etc.
Thanks
Jon

Jon,
I am very sad to say that Gryphon is just before my time.  There is a lot off light to be shed, but from memory the key points are:
1.  She was a one off designed by Mike Jackson for his own use.
2.  In her initial form there was no centreboard, just a big rudder and a canard type thing below the stem.  And yes, before you ask the capsize  recovery was an issue, as was launching off a beach.

As I recall she was probably a predecessor of the Final Chapter in terms of shape, and was converted to have normal foils by the 2nd owner.

Antony has summed up her history quite well under the other Gryphon thread  - I think she went from Mike Jackson to Andrew Turner who would have carried out the modifications. I believe that Mike went very fast in staight lines occasionally with the deep bow but that short tacking on the Thames at Ranelagh was a bit tricky - Mike himself or Chris Edwards would be the best people to consult on this - to the best of my knowledge neither visit this board but I think you'll find their numbers in the yearbook.

Cheers
