In researching the early history of N12's in Scotland and talking to Alex Tulloch we have ascertained that N342 was amateur built by his grandfather Jimmy Tulloch in 1936 to the lines of the Uffa King. She was originally named by Jimmy as Malja. Jimmy was a member of the Royal Forth Yacht Club in Granton Harbour, north Edinburgh. The pictures show :
N342 being  sailed in Wardie Bay before the war with Newhaven lighthouse visible in white on the right of the photograph and the cranes of Leith docks on the left;
N342 on display at Royal Forth Yacht Club alongside an early (home built) Merlin Rocket and Pusser's dinghy whilst the RFYC debates which Class to formally adopt...the N12 got the decision.
Another photo of racing at RFYC from this era shows N12's 109, 343 and 344 so a reasonable presence of pre-war 12's in Scotland!
