It is January, so it must be time to plan your summer holidays.

In advance of the mailing arriving on your doorsteps (not long now) , and the Burton Wk page on the website getting updated, here are a few links that you might appreciate:

The club is not far along the shore from the old harbour as you walk towards Paignton, ideally you want to be that side of the main harbour and not around the other side near the big breakwater.

And remember it is the week begining Saturday 28th July.  More updates to come, including news on sponsors, socials and of course the sailing.

Am currently in the process of trying to convince the wife we can combine a family holiday with Burton week.

Having not done a sailing champs for over 10 years and to help my arguement can you please give me a rough idea of the sailing format.

i.e. how many races a day, what time does racing start, duration, etc. an so what time will we have left with the rest of the family?

Thanks

The schedule is 6 days, 6 races, one race a day sunday to friday.  A daily start time of 1100, approx race length 2 hours.  Realistically you need to be able to commit from 0900 to 1500 each day to allow for the sail to the start - launch 1000 - and any delay to the start, and then the sail back in.  The idea is to get the best sailing possible on each day so it is possible that the start could be delayed.

The socials will kick off every evening by around 8pm.  They are not compulsory, and you dont need to do every race if you dont want to.

Do come - it is without doubt a compromise family holiday for all, but there is loads to do around Torbay and in particular Brixham.  Last year we took the children, this year they are going to stay with Grandma.  We will miss them I know.

The sailing club is central to Brixham and is a good base for all to meet up.  The club has good facilities and a great view over the sailing area so they will know when you are coming back in.  Good Luck

Why is that ... how long to walk from the big breakwater to the club?

Rick,
You make a good point, Brixham is not very big.  I guess that the walk from the shore end of the breakwater is about 15 minutes around the harbour.  Personally I believe in booking early and having a 5 minute stagger home, but I concede that it is still walkable.

In any case we are trying to get permission for car parking next to the boats, in which case people will be able to drive from wherever they like and park beside their 12.  Watch this space for developments.

Enter early, enter often, and bring your mates.

Good point ... I have just booked a flat in South Furzenham Road which looks a short stagger from the club.

Looking forward to our first Burton Week  :)

Rick
