This is an interesting thread, and I can see both points of view. The basic idea behind our involvement in the class was address the problem of availabilty and price limiting the growth of the class. Our belief was that if a decent competitive package could be put together for the price of an RS 200 then more people would sail 12s. The vehicle selected was the Paradigm 2 as it was the current Burton cup holder, therefore it had ultimate open water speed, and it appeared to be capable of all round results on restricted waters, and in different windspeeds. It is not a page 3 stunner to look at, but it is modern and it is practical, and it is not difficult to sail well, all important attributes in a good all rounder.
The relatively low price is acheived by making it simple to build. The fittings, rig and foils are all quality brands, and the hull and deck are vacuum bagged carbon epoxy. Our aim was not to make the absolute, ultimate 12, but to make a good quality, good value option for the fleet. 
The initial cost and overall rate of drepeciation of a 12 are going to be the driving forces that dictate new boat sales, and new boat sales are the only way that the fleet can grow and continue to flourish. The current diversity of DCB, FF, and Paradigm 2, not to mention the advent of winged rudder updates possibly rendering some obsolete but fast designs competitive again, should herald a genuine choice for owners, and a good platform for the class to market itself on. That, more than anything is  the major benefit of what we have produced. We all know that there are any number of dull, cheaply made mass produced boats out there that are sold in large numbers, essentially becuase they are moderately priced, available, and pushed hard.

If it is fast it will look good!  Having seen the "Wrong Trousers" from outside most of this year, she is begining to look normal!

Out of interest, what are the key development from the DCB that are likely to fleet to a different level, apart, of course, from the guy who drives her?
