La Rochelle long weekend next year?

The club at La Rochelle (srr-sailing.com) have a window end-June early July (student and budget friendly since it is outside the French school hols but after most tertiary educational exams). A long weekend with the rest of the week as a non-sailing hol could be a plan.
Overnight crossings ease the trip if travelling with Tinies.
Nice bit of water, capable club and the prospect of some reasonable weather.
Cheap and cheerful camping or mobile home accom available nearby.
Anyone interested?

unfortunatly a trip to garda with the rs's is going to count me out of this one, sadly budget wont allow for two trips across the channel. but its a fantastic idea and i hope lots of 12's manage to make it

Sounds lovely - we were camping there in August with the Fireballs.  Might be interested if Kevin is and depending on costs!

Hi Derek - got your note but haven't had chance to respond until now.  Sounds a great idea - just perhaps need to be aware that the last weekend in June is also the weekend fixed for the N12 Gill Summer Weekend event at Hykeham in the N12 2010 prog which is just about to go to print.

Sounds lovely, but need to find more info about budget before we could commit.

Take the twelve to france and woo them with its beauty..  what a great idea!

Just to echo Tim's comment, the 2010 programme is complete I think and Hykeham is indeed a potential clash so this would need to be an extra event and a clash may well have an adverse impact on numbers for this proposal and for the summer event which would be a shame.
Looking even further ahead 2011 is of course our 75th anniversary and plans are being discussed for events to celebrate this including hopefully a bumper summer regatta, still a long way off but worth bearing in mind as this may be an event that would fit well for those who would like to do something different.  It will be interesting to see the level of support that this idea gets, on a personal note I would not be able to make it next year sadly.  Howard C

La Rochelle SC has superb facilities and the old town has a fantastic selection of restaurants specialising in fruit de mers, big thumbs up!

Alternatives for the planners to consider though are on the south coast of Brittany, Loctudy at the west (brilliant langoustines, right on the edge of the Atlantic but can have St Michael's Mount's problem if relying on sea breezes), Quiberon/Carnac (bit like sailing in Portland Harbour but more open) and La Baule, (more a resort), all excellent and with camping and beaches a bit nearer.

If Hykeham is end June (25/26?), that still leaves 3/4 and 9/10 July before the Oppy invasion hits La Rochelle and the French school hols start.
Any preferences?
