I had only just passed my level 1& 2 and had no idea what class of boat she was. Through some investigation I found that she was a Mk8a N12. Over the next three years I repaired all the rotten boards, replaced the decking and gave her a lick of paint and varnish. I have sailed her at Roundhill Sailing Association in Leicester until 2006 when we moved to Norfolk. She is currently having a new coat of paint and varnish, and will be sailed at Hickling Broad Sailing Club for the 2007 season.

[face=Consolas]N1550 is listed as a Proctor Mark 8a built in 1957 by Wyche & Coppock; the records show that it was owned by Mike Noakes for the two years 1957/8. However, the first Proctor Mk8 was not built until 1958; the first Mk8 registered was N1593 "Pedagogue" and Ian Proctor's own boat "Tinnabulus" N1604 was also registered in that year. I have spoken with Mike Noakes at length and he is certain that N1550 is not a Mk8a but was probably a Mk6, perhaps to be designated a Mk6a as Wyche & Coppock modified Ian Proctor's original design by building them slightly wider/flaring them. Apparently IP was not pleased that his design had been adapted but the royalties flowed! Mike is further convinced that N1550 is not a Mk8(a) as his first Mk8 was N1717 Sea Sled.[/face]
