Burton Week ticked all my boxes then! Pevensey Bay SC gave us a great welcome and there wasn't anything else we could have asked for. They even managed to fit in the Burton Cup despite too much wind on Monday and (almost) too little on Tuesday. Even when there was too much wind we were entertained watching Matt kitesurfing!

Tom and Andrea (N3544) won the Burton Cup and the Silver National and there were race wins for Graham and Zoe (N3530) and William and Sophie (N3519). Final mention goes to GUL who provided very generous prizes for the buddy teams throughout the weekend.

Inland Champs Preview

The GUL Series heads to King George Sailing Club for event #6 with several boats still able to win the series overall. You can find out who's at the top and where you are by checking out the series results so far.

King George takes us near to the nation's capital and offers inland sailing at it's best - and a range of interesting courses possible, looking at the map! Held on 27th and 28th September, we have our fingers crossed for some late summer sun for the event. The open is shared with the Larks and the club have also planned a fish and chip supper on the Saturday night. For more information including accommodation options visit the club's website.

Results Round-up

On the estuary at Kippford for the Solway YC Open

There's been a whole summer of sailing since the last Latest Chapter so here are some of the highlights.

The inaugural 4 Plank series sponsored by HD Sails finished with a visit to Olton Mere. Matt and Kiera French won the day in their Windfall and Gerald and Tanya Copsey were overall series winners in their Cheshire Cat. The series has been a real success and it's been great to see the Four Plankers out on the water. You can read the report and find the results on the 12 website.

North of the border the Scottish 12 and a number of Northern (English) 12s got together at Kippford. This event held by Solway YC is always popular and got a great turn out this year. Philip David and Elaine Ross from Yorkshire Ouse took the honours. Check out the full report  and a great photo of the Palnackie race up the river here. I wonder if the Northerners will need their passports next year!

Salcombe YC Regatta Week was won by Salcombe legends John and Mandy Thornton sailing their Final Chapter which has recently been upgraded with a T-foil. Nick Copsey and Stephen Carver mastered the conditions across the varied North West Norfolk Week venues to come out on top. You can find the reports on Yachts and Yachting.

Coaching @ Northampton

12s at Northampton SC

A coaching day is being planned by Tom Stewart at Northampton, probably to be held on 8th November. This will be the perfect opportunity to get some top 12 sailing tips if you're new to the class or looking to hone your skills. The day will only go ahead if people are interested, so please post on the forum here if you would like to join in.

N12 Events Survey

Whilst there is still plenty of sailing left in 2014, the NTOA Committee have already started planning for next year. Attendance at some of the open meetings in the calendar has been a point of discussion a few times this season and we also discussed changing the format of some meetings at the AGM at Pevensey with a clear interest in some short sprint racing and handicap racing. With all of that in mind it seems like the perfect opportunity to get the views of everyone who is interested in sailing 12s.

Upcoming Events

After the Inlands at King George SC (27th-28th September), the GUL Series heads back up north to Ripon SC on 4th October for what is always a popular event.

Ripon is also on the Northern Area circuit so why not make a weekend of it with nearby Yeadon SC on the Sunday (5th October).

Before then the Northern Area series visits Yorkshire Dales SC, one of the top venues in the country, on 21st September. This year the event is part of the multi-club Bart's Bash, in honour of Olympian Andrew Simpson.

The penultimate round of the Thames Area series is on the river at Henley SC on 14th September.

Looking a bit further ahead the Scottish series will be at Castle Semple SC for the weekend of 11th-12th October and in the South West there is a 2nd chance to head down to Salcombe YC for the weekend (18th-19th October).
