National Twelves at Royal Harwich Yacht Club on February 21st

Fifteen boats attended the National Twelve Class Midwinter Championship at Royal Harwich Yacht Club on February 21st, despite an unfavourable forecast. The attendance at an excellent dinner the previous night was far higher, and the blustery conditions meant that many preferred to nurse their hangovers in the clubhouse the following morning rather than bravely take to the water.

In the end only one race was sailed, as the conditions deteriorated to gusts exceeding 35 knots and gear failure took a toll. The race was won by Jon and Charlotte Ibbotson in 3398, after Tom Stewart and Jess Brown had capsized while leading on the first of the wild reaches. Jon Brown and Jane Jones followed in second, and the family Iles finished third.
