Burton Brick 2000

The nominations this year:

Mike Cooke made an early contribution to the Brick, Mike parked his van on the harbour and nipped into the yatch club for a quick drink, when he came out 30 minutes later he discovered the most expensive parking fine in the world ever - £500 . . . donations please!

Mike had a second attempt at the brick on the water - Mike had just sailed into 2nd (his best position in a Burton ever) when he decided to jump out of the boat at the Gybe mark

Marcus wheek receives a nomination for showing us the way forwards in hull technology with his newly built, absolutely lovely retro-clinker effect wild frontear. Marcus also got a nomination for having the first non-self draining, self draining baot (me thinks the double bottom will be coming up shortly).

Richard Williams, sailing "Carbon 12", put in a solid mid week performance by playing a game of chicken with a tanker moored in the middle of the bay (caused by an unfortunate capsize on the run). Carbon Vs Steel . . . the debate continues!

Graham Ireland - was not going to received a nomination this year because he did absolutely nothing brick worthy and his sailing was far too good. But his highly fashionable designer attire at the prize giving deserves a mention (and a spin from Graham)

On one of the windy races Andy Pickerell was spotted taking a rubber ring out in his boat - Andy claims it was to replace the bouyancy bag that was slashed by vandals) we all no the course it was infact a life raft - Later reports comfirm this as Andy was spotted in one of the sea front shops trying to decided whether the rubber ring or blow up green alien would be more suitable.

Robin Wood was caught practising an alternative water sport, so comfortable with his 2nd place was Robin that he decided to practise his waterskiing on the run.

Sue Pelling put in a late bid for the brick. Sue a.k.a. "Wonder Woman" spotted that a Twelve had fallen off the harbour wall and was floating away, with no thought for her personal safety Sue jumped into the water and rescued the Twelve. When she got out she said - hmm my dry suit feels a bit damp, must be leaking a little . . . on no i've just forgotten to do it up!)

Ben Powell came to Burton Week with an excellent new boat which was careflully hand crafted by himself, he made every part of it . . . except the rudder which was the only bit to break , so Ben receives a nomination for letting someone else make a part of his boat

Runner Up

For the second time in the Championships - runner up position goes to Stuart Hudson fo having in decks painted Silver - therefore silver medal . . . next year we suggest that Stuart gets them painted GOLD!!!!!

And the winner of the Burton Brick 2000

This years winner made a well round, bouyant contribution to the week with an excellent finale.

Having broken his mast on Thursday he decided to launch early for the final race, attempting to sail on his road trailer . . . Julian Hood!!!
