Blaydon Races

Tynemouth SC sailed the Blaydon Races upstream to Wylam in an evanescent Northerly zephyr and a fading flood tide, on Sunday February 6th. In the National Twelves, Philip David and James Shipley took the lead after making a poor start. A tight scrum at the top mark let Brian Herring and Ros Stevenson in their 47-year-old Proctor Mark 4A into second place, which they hung onto until the finish despite being threatened towards the end. Mark Simpson and Tressa King were third.

Alan Baker and Gill Kincaid led the small Enterprise fleet throughout and were the only finishers: the light wind and slowly strengthening ebb tide prevented the other competitors getting round the Wylam mark. Lawrence Young won the Laser race.

RESULTS: National Twelves. 1st: N 3217 P David and J Shipley (Yorkshire Ouse SC), 2nd: N 1673 B Herring and R Stevenson (Winsford Flash SC), 3rd:Mark Simpson and Tressa King (Scaling Dam SC).
