National 12 events 2005
Earlswood Vintage OpenThis was one of two handicap events in the National Twelve's Vintage Wing Series, for the Witchcraft Bailer Trophy. Unfortunately entries were well down on last year. Winds were light to moderate. Race one, sailed as a scratch race to establish handicaps for the following two pursuit races, saw all the boats keen to get underway, but with Brian Kitching in Just Lucky being a little too keen and over the line. There was close racing until about two-thirds of the way through, when Brian Herring pulled out a lead which he maintained to the end. The second, pursuit, race with starting times based on the results of the first race, saw Lawrence Carter get away at the start and kept the lead through out the race. Paul Turner managed to move up to second place and Brian Herring surged through on the last lap to pass Brian Kitching. The final race, with the handicaps slightly adjusted again, saw Brian Kitching off first, chased by Paul, Brian Herring and Lawrence. Paul Turner managed to pass Brian Kitching in the last lap and held on to take first place. Brian Herring finished a short distance behind. The final results:
