Annandale SC Annandale SC hosted the first of the Scottish Travellers series
meeting for the National Twelve class on Sunday 17 April. The
strong winds which had been prevalent on Friday and Saturday
were thankfully somewhat lighter, however with the OOD forecasting
that they would return later in the day the fleet were keen to
get afloat to make the most of the ideal sailing conditions.
In the first race Mark and Emma Simpson developed a healthy lead,
with Bernard Clark and Andrew Mitchell holding a secure 2nd place
until a badly executed gybe gave them a dunking and, with another
capsize later in the race, they eventually finished the race
in 7th place. Ian Simpson and Tressa King, who had been overhauled
by Clark and Mitchell on a reaching leg of the course must have
had a wry smile as they sailed past the capsized boat, and held
on to 2nd place from then through to the end of the race.
Race 2, sailed on full stomachs after Annandale demonstrated
their usual high level of hospitality, saw Simpson and Simpson
once again out in front, but Clark and Mitchell managed to stay
upright this time round and claimed 2nd place, just ahead of
Simpson and King. The whole fleet enjoyed some superb planing
conditions, with the wind holding at a steady force 4.
Race 3 saw the same finishing order, and with the wind speed
increasing during the race the fleet were glad to get ashore
and pack up, particularly as the increase in wind strength was
combined with the onset of rain. With 3 races out of 3 to count
the final prizewinners were:
1st Mark and Emma Simpson, Scaling Dam SC
2nd Ian Simpson and Tressa King, Tynemouth SC
3rd Bernard Clark and Andrew Mitchell, Yorkshire Ouse SC/Clyde
