Boxing Day race at Royal HarwichThe National Twelve fleet gathered at Royal Harwich on Boxing Day for
the final open meeting of the year. Despite the festivities and the
windless weather forecast it was well worth the effort, as the wind
filled in just in time. Richard Williams and Stella Brown led off the
line, and extended their lead up the first beat from a chasing pack led
by Antony and Jo Gifford. Jon and Jules Brown wriggled free of the
Ledger & Ross and the rest of the pack to settle in to third place.
Halfway up the second beat the wind briefly failed us, allowing the
fleet to compress and the Giffords to get up to the transom of Williams
and Brown. After a tense period of close tacking the Giffords managed to
pick-up a crucial lift along the bank and were off into an unassailable
lead. As ever the fleet were grateful to those who gave their time to
