National 12 Vintage Championship held at Burton Sailing Club, Foremark Reservoir, Derbyshire

24th & 25th June 2017

 Vintage
Derwent Handicap

The wind was lighter and shifty for the morning race, which was the handicap decider and then increased after lunch for the next two pursuit races. Dave Peacock was lucky with the shifts in the first race and won by a leg over the second boat, Phil David. It’s never good to win the first race by too much as the handicaps are based on this.

The handicaps were decided over lunch, with the starters in race two being handicapped from zero to five mins. The stronger and steadier wind in the afternoon made it difficult for the chasers to catch up but the winner of the second race, Martin Clarke, needs to be congratulated as his crew was a complete beginner; he had press ganged his future son in law.

The wind increased for the third race and maximum handicap was reduced to four minutes. The chasers did close the gap somewhat and Phil David, crewed by Tricia Peacock, took the win, giving them the trophy.

Vintage Champs

Slightly less windy conditions greeted a depleted fleet for the Vintage Champs on Sunday, some had gone home after Saturday and one boVintageat decided it was too windy.
Three races were held back to back, in near perfect sailing conditions. Dave Peacock crewed by Ann Britton won all three races, closely perused by Phil David and Paul Turner.
The event was well publicised and the organisation by Janet, Kevan and Paul was excellent. The location is central and the forecast and sailing conditions were very good. However, the turnout was down again on previous years. A great time was had by all who turned up but it’s a shame the entry wasn’t higher.
