Olton Mere SC Open Meeting

The weather at Olton Mere was similar to that of the Earlswood SC open on
the preceding day, with bright sun and plenty of gusts to keep competitors
on their toes. The day attracted visitors form as far afield as Redesmere
and Avon SC's, with good support from the home fleet.

The morning race initially appeared a runaway win for Roger and Matthew
Angell in a borrowed Paper Dart, until the complexity of the course got
the better of them, handing the race to Alan and Sarah Williams in their
Cheshire Cat. Adam and Graham Forster took second in a Windfall, while
Andyand Daniel Hurst came home third in their recently acquired Tigress, the
Angells being dropped to fourth by their mistake.

The next race, held after lunch, saw the return of John and James
Whitehead to the fray after their success at Earlswood the day before. They again
made short work of the rest of the fleet to win both of the afternoon
races, followed both times by the Angells. Third place in the second race was
again taken by the Hursts with the Williams taking third spot in the final
race.

And so an excellent days puddle racing was enjoyed by all (and some
excellent hotdogs...). With the next Midlands area event being held at
Redesmere on the final weekend of September, can anyone knock John
Whitehead off his perch on home ground?
