Vintage Twelves at Earlswood Lakes

Warm sunshine and Force 2-3 winds greeted the fleet of clinker-built National Twelves for their annual Open Meeting at Solihull on Sept.13. In the first scratch race, regulars on the vintage circuit were out-sailed by a vintage person when ELSC’s founding commodore, Bob Lewis, crewed by his diminutive grand-daughter won, followed by Vince Phillips of Yorkshire Ouse and Brian Herring of Winsford Flash. This being a handicap event, the results from the first race were used to set the starting sequence for the two pursuit races which followed. Lewis therefore started last and was unable to overcome his handicap. The race was won by Herring, with Phillips second and Brian Kitching, of Frampton on Severn, third. The final race was won by Phillips, with Herring second and Ken Goddard and Ann Britton, of Trent Valley, third.

Final Results:

1st  N.2531       Vince Phillips & Edward Carter

2nd N.1673       Brian Herring & Ros Stevenson

3rd  N.1657      Brian Kitching & Chris Laytham.
