Lairwell Trophy Summary

There were only two events for the Lairwell Trophy this year due to the difficulty of getting events close enough to the border to attract a reasonable English contingent to swell the numbers.

Steve Sallis won the Scottish Championships with a clean sweep at Annandale despite being pushed hard by Phil David. But with neither of these turning up it was left for the rest to fight it out at Solway which was notable for several reasons: Ian Purkis winning a race, Angus Beyts for finally finishing a race at Solway after 4 years of failure, and for having a pursuit race up river. With a different winner in each race it was Finally the Simpson family who took the honours and also winning the Lairwell Trophy.

Phil David won the border trophy and Mark Simpson won the Ladybird Book for recycling a mirror sail as a jib.
