In times gone by the Northern Area Prize Giving has been linked to
the Yorkshire Ouse Dinner and has been a grand and formal occasion held
at the Merchant Taylors Hall in York. Things change however and
this year our prize giving was somewhat less formal but fun none the
less.
Twenty or so fleet members met for an Indian meal at the Aagrah Indian
Restaurant in Garforth near Leeds and despite the Friday evening traffic
members managed to come from as far afield as Alderley Edge and
Nottingham. The meal was excellent and conversation flowed
throughout with those experienced in Indian cuisine helping out those
less familiar. Brian Miatt was heard to say he had never been in
an Indian restaurant only to be contradicted by his wife Iris insisting
that he had.
Area Representative Brian Herring took the chair for the not very formal
and exceedingly quick presentation of trophies congratulating worthy
winners Philip David and Caroline Clark on winning not only the Old
Spice Trophy for the Northern Series with 4 straight wins but the Border
Trophy as well for the combined results of Annandale and Newburn open
meetings. Conducting a prize giving in the middle of an Indian
restaurant on a Friday evening was rather a challenge for Brian and he
was uncharacteristically brief whilst Philip very eloquently responded
“thanks” and we could then all continue with the high level of decibels
and social discourse.
